Every hiker and backpacker will tell you that the right kind of food is just as important as the gear that you carry. That is why I created this site of hiking and backpacking recipes. These recipes can even be used by the weekend camper or even at home. I've listed my favorite hiking recipes and camping recipes on the recipes page.
The importance of nutrition cannot be overlooked. Even ultralight hikers have to find a balance between weight and nutrition from the food they carry. Freeze dried foods, for example, is extremely light, but is said that it is not the best source of nutrition for longer hikes.
What
you have to remember is that calorie intake needs to be upped whenever
you undertake physical exercise above an beyond what you usually do.
When you go hiking your metabolic rate increases, you burn more calories
and these need to be replaced.
Newcomers
to hiking will find this site very useful. A lot of these hikers
recipes can be prepared at home and a some can even be easily be
prepared on the trail. This site also gives tips on what cooking gear to
buy, describing the pros and cons of the different types.
